Citrus Trees

As Autumn closes in, it is time for our citrus trees to become the main player in the orchard. My lemon tree is setting new fruit and requires feeding every two weeks to ensure a healthy crop of large fruit.

On the weekend, I cleaned out my layers' boxes of old straw, removed a wheel barrow of manure and litter from the floor beneath the roost, and fed this to my lemon tree.

I will continue to add aged chicken manure mixed with litter from the floor every two weeks to fulfil my duty in supplying nutrients to my tree in anticipation of a bountiful crop.

As it has been very dry in Western Victoria I am giving the tree a slow water after each application.

Citrus trees require regular tip pruning, not an annual prune.

This video from Vasilis Garden demonstrates how to complete this task.
