As Autumn is well and truly upon us, my tomatoes are coming to an end and I thought I'd make another batch of 'Dad's Favourite Sauce.' Once you have made and tasted this sauce, it will become a family favourite at your place too.

I discovered this recipe in one of my beautiful mum's preserving books after she passed away. My mum had a passion and love for preserving from her garden and I cherish that I can continue her legacy with her recipes old and new.

DAD'S FAVOURITE SAUCE RECIPE

10 medium (1 kg) tomatoes,

4 large (800g) apples, peeled, chopped

4 medium (480g) onions, chopped

2 cups sugar

1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons golden syrup

2 cups cider vinegar

2 cups water

2 teaspoons cooking salt

2 teaspoons mixed spice

2 teaspoons dry mustard

1 teaspoon ground black pepper ( I always omit this)

1 tablespoon curry powder

2 tablespoons cornflour

1/4 cup water, extra

Combine all ingredients except cornflour and extra water in large saucepan. Stir over heat, without boiling, until sugar is dissolved. Bring to boil, simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 1 hour or until sauce is thick. Blend or process mixture in batches until smooth.

Return to pan, stir in blended cornflour and extra water, stir until mixture boils and thickens. Pour into hot sterilised jars; seal.

Makes about 6 cups (1 1/2 litres)

Recipe from 'Australian Women's Weekly - The Book of Preserves'

I have made six batches of this recipe this season and love to give this sauce away to family and friends who love it. This sauce is a favourite of my 86-year-old dad, who rates it 10/10 as it really is, 'Dad's Favourite Sauce.'
