A step-by-step guide to making your own paprika-style chilli powder at home using mild, flavourful Hungarian Black chillies.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to share with you my homemade paprika powder. This adventure began by browsing the seed catalogue of Dave's Seeds (Website at bottom of page), and it encouraged my vision to harvest and preserve organic Paprika. I aim to broaden the application and use of paprika so that, many more people can appreciate the benefits and the desirable qualities of this amazing plant.

I used Hungarian Black chillies from Dave's Seeds to make this rich, paprika-style powder. These chillies are perfect for those who prefer a milder heat but still want to enjoy that chilli flavour without the bite.

Crafting The Perfect Powder

  1. After washing the chillies, I cut them in half and deseeded them with a spoon.

  2. Don't forget to save some of your seeds for this year's sowing.

  3. To make dehydrating more efficient, I chopped the chillies into thin, even slices.

  4. I use a Fowler's Dehydrator and set the heat to fruits and vegetables.

  5. Once fully dehydrated, I blended the chillies into a fine powder, and then transferred the mix into spice jars for storage.

There’s something so satisfying about reaching for this powder in the kitchen, knowing it’s organic and made with my own hands, from garden to spoon.
